Environmental Health and Safety

Electrical Safety

In EHS-123 Electrical Safety, we build a solid foundation of electrical safety awareness specifically tailored for the unique, high-stakes environments found in the life sciences industry and those without a professional background in electrical work. We follow Carter, a lab researcher who guides us as we learn to identify common hazards, such as frayed cords, daisy-chained power strips, and the dangers of working near conductive liquids. Along the way, we become familiar with essential electrical terminology and concepts, and how technology and regulatory standards help to keep personnel safe around electrical equipment. Crucially, we explore how to maintain safety and respond to emergencies involving electricity, how to recognize warning signs of potential hazards, and the strict boundary between general understanding and tasks reserved for qualified professionals. This course will help you stay safe, protect your research, and develop a proactive safety culture.
