The Importance of Audit Trails to Laboratory Data Integrity [Video]

All computer systems that handle and/or store the records of the activities, such as logging of samples, processing instrument output, storing the results of analysis, and issuing certificates of analysis; or other regulatory functions such as recording staff training, are equipped with activated audit trails.

What Audit Trails Record

These audit trails record all entries made, data processing, and any changes made to records. In addition the audit trails record:

  •  What was entered, processed or changed
  • The date and time of activity
  • Who performed the activity
  • The reason for the activity

Avoid Disabling or Altering Audit Trails

Audit trails cannot and must not be disabled or altered under any circumstances, doing so will seriously undermine the integrity of our records, and will be taken very seriously. Audit trails will be appropriately reviewed.
