Environmental Health and Safety

Hot Work

In high-precision life science environments, the difference between a successful maintenance task and a catastrophic facility loss may come down to a single stray spark. This course transforms participants into safety vigilant experts by teaching them to identify “hot zones” and manage the hidden risks of hot work within sensitive GxP and cleanroom settings. Learners will master the “Fire Triangle” specifically as it relates to laboratory solvents and oxygen-enriched atmospheres, navigate the complexities of hot work permits and the Hierarchy of Controls, and learn to select specialized, low-linting PPE that protects both the operator and the sterile environment. By examining the roles of the Fire Watch and local exhaust ventilation, they will gain the practical skills needed to safeguard high-value research, prevent contamination, and ensure that mission-critical operations remain uninterrupted by fire or regulatory scrutiny.
